Most states have "must arrest" laws concerning domeatic violence (and this qualifies as such). You should have called the cops.
Screw the company. If calling the cops when you witness a crime would cause you to lose your job, then they are not worth working for anyway.
And if you wouldn't have lost your job, you should have kicked his ass. What a classless, worthless SOB. I would have knocked him across the room on general principle.
