One could jumper out the two leads on the connector to the LOWER temp sending unit (see above) and the needle should shoot over to the extreme right side of the guage when switched on at ignition key. If needle doesn't respond, problem is most likely in the temp sending unit itself.



This should have read if needle DOES respond, then problem is most likely in the temp sending unit itself. If the temp gauge needle DOES NOT move, when jumpered at connector as described above, then the prob is in the guage or wiring to same. SORRY for the error.
