Ever read that Bukowski novel about making Barfly? The Barbet Schroeder character lives in a terrible neighborhood in LA. One night the wheels get stolen off his car, and in the morning the local thugs come to his house to sell the back to him. He buys them back, but works out a deal so that they guarantee him they'll never be stolen again, by anyone. Their "insurance" doesn't apply to any other part of the car, but for his money the wheels are safe forever.
