Maybe I'm missing your point...
So the smart way of combating addiction is to have the government pour tax money into a shelter that's nothing more than the equivalent of a state-funded crack-house?!
9 out of 10 recovering addicts of just about anything will tell you that they had to hit ROCK-BOTTOM before it finally dawned on them; what they were doing and what kind of effect it was having on themselves and others around them. It's got to be an ugly process before most want to try and give the Devil up.
How in HELL does having a safe, clean and comfortable place to "shoot up" (complete with refreshments, NO LESS) combat addiction?

I think all hard core junkies should be exterminated. They are not productive members of society, have made their own decision to end their lives slowly and do not deserve our empathy.

Rock bottom. Those are a couple of key words. I hit that 2 years ago, and most drug addicts are lucky if they do realize that they've hit rock bottom. That's when you know to grow up and change your life, and I thank God that I realized that when I did. Now look at me, I'm in college and have a good paying job.  Never would have been there if I was still doing drugs.

It is interesting to find that the people that are most militant about the treatment of junkies. The reason being is they know the truth and they know that you can't play pretty with addicts.
Do you think that this type of program is helping them to become more productive citizens? Is it doing anything to prevent them from destroying their own bodies?
If joe is an addict and a construction worker I hope to God that he is not building anything that I am ever going to be in or near. I also pray that he is not operating any peice of equipment bigger than a shovel.
Wonder if that guy has a family and they are so thankful that he gets to soot up in a relaxed enviorment.
I care about these addicts and will pray for "Joe" but what he needs is help not justification.

I couldn't agree more. The government should never encourage any of these people. They should take these people and make them go through treatment or else they'll send them to jail. You have to be tough with drug addicts. Wiping their ass never solves anything.

Heroin and suicide are self solving problems. Sorry I'm so cold on that, but I have little sympathy in that regard. In todays world EVERYONE knows by now where both ends, and everyone is dying to get in. Or will eventually.
