There is actually nothing wrong with the JL Audio subs. In fact they sound great and are cheap for comercial drivers. You got a good price, better than I've seen by about $50 or so. But, Dave hit the highlights already why the Shiva is a little bit better. One more, magnet weight of 112oz, IIRC which lets the Shiva use it's 15mm Xmax. So if you already have JL's, enjoy them as I would. But if looking at buying the JL's, there are some alternatives I'd put my money into. I don't reommend upgrading to a Shiva type from the JL unless you have a buyer for the JL's.

Sony Xplod subs are phat... I work at Best Buy and everyone there recommends them. Pioneer amps have good sounds but no punch... and rockford or sony xplod amp will do nicely

If you work at Best Buy, you probably haven't heard anything of tremendous quality.

My farts have more bass than the accoustimass subwoofer. And they cost less too! BTW, those shivas you seem so fond of, well I did some digging. It turns out they are made of people, so don't eat them. Show your disgust by pooping on them...

They are made of people? That's a new technology that I've never heard of. Is that what the cone material is made of?

The Shiva is made by www.adireaudio.com. You can get them directly from the mfg. They should also have a list of resellers on the site that might save you some shipping. You'll find all the info you need at that site. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask here also. There are a few of us who own them and will be able to answer just about anything.

BTW, also check out the dayton DVC12 from www.partsexpress.com . It is a shiva clone and depending on where you live might be easier to get a hold of.
