I was in my local Wal-Mart today looking for the necessaries to change my oil when I saw a Motorcraft FL-2005 filter on the self. I knew it was new (atleast in my wal-mart), becuase I had never seen it before. Sure enough it is listed for the Contour Zetec engine. I guess the FL-2005 a new design of the old FL-200? Only $3.47

I've been getting it, FL-2005, at my local wal-marts ever since I bought my car two years ago.

Why would I rejoice? That thing is small. Does that even work on newer zetecs? No way would that work on a pre98.

FL-2005 is for the 98+ Zetec. FL-200 is for pre-98.

Then obviously it's for 98+ zetecs, but I was suprised at how small it is.

I use it as well on my daughters 96 GL ATX, with no problems. It fits the sump better than the shorter fatter FL-200.

For a street car and the RPM range of the motor, I don't think the physical size of the filter matters. I doubt if the oil passages, sump, & pick-up tubes were redesigned in the later ZETECS. My son has a ZETEC in his 99 ZX2 and it uses a FL-2005. The filter in my 2.5 Probe GT is 1/2 the size of the FL-2005 (FL-842). Don't sweat the size, just change em' every 3000 miles.
