I think one of the problems is that it appears no one really has the time to maintain a detailed FAQ section. If a thread is similar to ~100 other threads, it really should be in the FAQ... then people *should* stop posting new threads, asking the same questions. I'd think 100 repeated questions would be Frequently Asked Questions, eh?
I work 60-75 hours a week and have 2 little kids to take care of. I've tried playing around with the "search feature"... but as TORSVT6 pointed out, it is very time consuming to find what you're looking for. For example, searching/reading an entire night just trying to find how to most effeciently reinforce the rear swaybar mounts

Because of this... I usually only skim the forums every month or so, or make time to spend a night searching for a specific bit of info.
Don't get me wrong... I think this site is great... and the people are great, just seems that there is little active organization to the abundance of information held here.
