My take on this subject is this, Before MJ was made illegal it was not a very pervasive problem. It was not a problem because unlike the communities of today the people back then took people in their families or communities doing drugs seriously and most people didn't just turn their heads and ignore problems because it was easier than addressing the problem. The problem we have today is too many people want the government to requlate everything unpleasant so they donot have to take responsibility for their actions or those of their friends and family. Legal or illegal the problem of drug abuse isn't going to go away and i would just assume that it be legalized and all money derived from the taxes go towards truthful, honest drug education ( not the DARE scare tactics ) and treatment programs for people who truly can't control their addictions. Most efective way to fix the drug problem is to stop spending so much time on trying to get the government to make laws to protect us and start taking care of our own families and to get out there to meet your neighbors and let them know to call you if they see your kid smoking pot or drinking and let them know you will do the same for them. It is time to stop ignoring addiction in family members and start giving out a little tough love, it is time to stop saying is's not my problem when we see the kid down the street getting high, and most of all it is time to let our neighbors know it is ok for them to snatch our kids up by the scruff of the neck when they are doing wrong. This country is doomed to fail if we continue to wait for government policy to fix all of the wrongs becaust the fact of the matter is that most of washington doesn't give a damn about us and that is our fault also.
