As some of you may know, I've tried putting an 8" free air sub in the rear deck to unsatisfactory results.
Since then, it's just been hanging there unhooked.
Well, I decided to give it another try. I got some 3/4" thick felt carpet padding and put it in between the metal and rear deck cover (cut a hole in it for the speaker). I also trimmed out the card-board type of material on the rear deck, which previously covered the speaker (didn't cut any of the carpeting).
Next, I bridged the sub to my amp to give it about 250w.
Now, I am very surprised at how good it sounds. It's not super deep like a 10" or bigger, but it more than fills out the low end the car is lacking using just 6x8s.
I cut the sub at around 80hz and did likewise with my front speakers (stockers). The fronts don't sound too bad either when cut at 80hz and 80w running to them. Not component quality, but definately leaps and bounds ahead of the stock system.
If anyone is interested in pics, let me know and I'll post some.
What kind of irks me is that I just bought a pair of 8" Audiobahn subs that I'm planning on using in the car. Now, I'm kind of unsure of what to do, as the Kicker is more than taking care of the low end. Decisions, decisions...
