Hi, Anybody used the TopSider to change the ATX fluid. Idea is you plug it thru dip stick and let it suck old fluid out. Then you just add new fluid. No mess.

Hmmmmmmmm. I probably wouldn't do it for a motor oil change, since I figure a drain from the bottom of the pan is probably more thorough than a vacuum removal. However, for an ATF change, as you suggested, it might make sense. The question in my mind is whether the tube could be inserted into the correct location in the tranny to remove all of the fluid.

For the oil change it will work only on cars designed for such way (Mercedes, BMW) I heard about guy trying it on Honda with no luck. I wouldn't use it for the Contour motor oil change either - because Contour got the filter under the engine - so you'll be spilling oil any way.
So I guess I'll be the first one to try it on Contour's ATX

Let us know how much fluid you can actually extract. IIRC the total amount should be somewhere around 10 quarts.

Well, if you go thru drain plug you get only 4. So if i can get 4 - i'll call it a success.

Let me know how it goes. It seems to me to be a good idea for the ATF!

Yeah, you're right, but as I see it, that's the problem with the drain. You only get less than half of the total amount out. It would be nice if removal from the top would actually get more than 4. Probably not, but I don't know enough about the internal reservoirs to know.

Dropping the drain plug or sucking it out through the dipstick tube, will still yield the same results, without the mess. There is still 4 quarts of oil in the bottom of the CD4E no matter how you drain it. The other 6 quarts are in the cooler, the cooler lines, the pump, and the Torque Converter.

Did you drain out the bottom too and then see if it could get anymore? If all 4 qts would drain out the bottom, that's 6qts, which isn't too bad.
