...also you can drive with out the EGR ....your gas mileage will suck and you'll probably have rough idle, but I can't see a broken hose leaving you stranded at the side of the road.
The EGR is there for emmissions and to improve gas mileage. It sends Exhaust Gas back into the back into the intake manifold because the exhaust still has unburned fuel...
You should be ok until you fix the hose.
