I was looking underneath my head unit and decided that this place would be the best place to put an equalizer for my stereo system. Is it? Would it even be worth putting in an equalizer into my car?

I am planning on putting in the following:

New MP3 playing head unit
new 6x8s all around (suggestions on type)
and 2 10s or 12s in the trunk (suggestions again?)

Thanks.

Future mods:
Mp3 HU, Front/Rear speakers, 10" sub, SVT front/rear bumper/sideskirts, Intake, SVT Exhaust, Power Options from Junked Tour

Forget the EQ, it won't be necessary unless you plan on competing.

Substitute Focal 5.25" component set for the 6x8s. You can get them at www.zalytron.com for 99.00 a pair. They are one of the best brands available and at an unbelievably low price right now. For a sub, get one 12" from one of the following sources.

The Shiva from www.adireaudio.com (115.00)

The Dayton DVC 12 from partsexpress.com(119.00)

The SB12 or SAE1204 from www.stryke.com (109-149 Depending on the model. The SAE is 109.00)

Any of these will outperform just about any brand name car audio sub on the market. You can also check with KnuKonceptz on this site. He is in the process of having some nice subs built. Spec wise, they will be similar to what I have recommended.

Hey.
Don't be so hard on yourself, Dave. smile
I was thinking about picking up a Kenwood KGC-9044 passive equalizer for my setup. My deck only puts out like 1.8v to my 2 amps and this thing puts out 4v and has 3 preouts to my deck's 2. On ebay, it would be about 150-200.00. Would this be a good choice or would you not recommend it for the same reasons above?

Do we really have to do the rating system?

haha...thanks jujeff...

there is nothing inherently wrong with an eq. the problem starts when people go dial crazy and completely mess up the freq response.

Audiocontrol makes a nice EQ that may fit under there...not sure what model...it's the size of a half DIN EQ. Just a thought... smile

Thanks for all the helpful ideas guys. Honestly, I wanted to get an equalizer to match the head unit I planned on getting...just more stuff to play with. My dad had one on his old truck. Being a gearhead is contageous!

Dave doesn't even have a Tour any more, hence the lack of a life. eek

But, I agree with Dave. EQ's are nice toys, but it won't change the sound. Flatten the response, yes, but those Focals will outperform any 6x8.
