Demon, do you think the SPEC flywheel would work better with a SPEC clutch than the Fidanza and SPEC clutch, if you installed them on a CSVT that is?

To answer the first question way at the top, NO, it isn't the best bang for your buck, because you'll have to take apart the whole tranny, and parts+labor alone, you're looking at nearly 2 grand (including a new clutch, which is a no brainer, and a new LSD, possibly). . .

I have the SpecIII+Fidanza, and I get a slow grinding noise when I engage in first gear because I engage 1st slow in traffic. If I drop the clutch quick, there's no grind. So I'm not to sure that noise has anything to do with resurfacing the flywheel with a new clutch. I didn't have mine done.

Demon is right, if you get a Spec, get THEIR flywheel, they'll match it up just right and even (if I remember correctly, I forgot who I bought my spec from), bolt the clutch and flywheel up for you. . .if I did it all over again, I'd do that. . .even though I got the clutch on a GB and the flywheel for $260 or so (WAY below MSRP). . .

As for seat of the pants, yeah, it's fun and great 1-3, and a bit more peppy on the highway (noticeable, of course I did other mods at the same time). . .but makes driving around town a bit of a chore since you have to match revs when down shifting, and of course stop and go traffic is more difficult given how sensitive the acceleration is because of the low rotating mass. . .

I wonder if thats the same noise I get with my stock setup. Whenever I slowly engage the clutch between about 1250 and 1750 RPMS I get what sounds like "loose bolts in a tin can". Sound about right? I wonder what that is....

Out of curiousity, what other mods did you do at the same time as your fidanza/spec install? (trying to guage if I'll notice a power difference when I get my fidanza installed)

I can tell you SPEC makes their own flywheels.

Now maybe Fidanza buys them from SPEC for our application and made to a different final weight, but SPEC makes their own flywheels.
