Delmar is correct on how the torque converter allows slippage when slowing down. IIRC the component is called a "torque converter soleniod" located inside of the transmission. I believe one just has to remove the transmission pan and r&r the solenoid. Call around a few tranny shops and feel them out. Does it feel like you are driving an MT and trying to come to a stop in 4th gear?
