I can't seem to find a definite answer online anywhere(all I see is Mustang Mach 460 related stuff) or at my new hangout(Escape-Central)about the Mach Audio system in my Escape. Maybe someone here could advise? Here is what I have:

(2001)Mach Audio CD/Cassette combo with 7 speakers:

4 6x8s in front/rear doors
2 tweeters in sail panels
1 6.5" amplified "subwoofer"

Right now I would like to replace the stock subwoofer amp with one of my RF 120a2 amps(bridged) and replace the "subwoofer" with a RF RFP4406 6.5" sub(it is considered a sub because it only goes up to 100-150hz IIRC). I want to keep the factory HU(for now ), so I will need a 2 channel adjustable line output converter(the factory sub is a DVC). But what I am wondering about...do I have to tap into the wiring BEFORE the factory amp, or AFTER the amp? I have heard that some factory headunits send out a low signal that is amplified when it gets to the amp. I am hoping someone with experience and resources will chime in(possibly Steeda?). TIA.

Ford doesn't use speaker level signals between the head unit and the amp, if that's what you are asking. They did prior to about 1992.

They use what is known as a "balanced" signal between the head unit and the amp. It's a low-level signal, and it's not directly compatible with aftermarket amps because it's balanced.

I'd suggest connecting the subwoofer to the speaker output of the amp.

Thanks. I guess tapping into the rear door speaker wires and installing the LOC would work too? They are powered by the HU, not an outboard amp. I'm thinking tapping into the factory amp outputs and installing the LOC there would be easier though since I could use 3' RCA cables(I have some) instead of running a longer set from around the HU back. The subwoofer amp is attached to the subwoofer enclosure. Thoughts?
