I don't follow the scout reference. The internation V8s were nearly bullet proof. Scouts are one of the most overbuilt vehicles I have ever come across, and although the engines were a little anemic from the factory, reliability was never an issue in any scout I have come across.

I don't follow the H2 bashing. No, it's by no means the off-road monster that the H1 is, but it can definitely hold it's own.
I'll agree that 95% of the people that buy them will put them on nothing worse than an occasional dirt road while traveling to grandma's, but that overpriced "Suburban" has some pretty stout underpinnings...
I've taken an '88 4x4 Suburban places that would astonish you, and with less lift than that Hummer had. Same thing with Nissan Pathfinders, Toyota 4-Runners and an early Land Cruiser ('84; my favorite SUV of the bunch because it was a stick and a TRUE truck). Those definitely fit the SUV category.
Like someone said, if you do any amount of off-roading, no matter what type of monster setup you have, there will come a day when something WILL give...

dnewma04 - I guess I didn't know that. The only scouts I've seen have been pretty unreliable...they are eighty-kajillion years old, however. Swazo - Thanks for the clarification. proliphik - nope, I'm not kidding. I never said they're safe, sturdy, or powerful. I just said they're pretty darn good offroad. Todras knows what I'm talkin' about. Originally posted by todras: Ever been in one that got about 3 feet in the air? Duke style!!!

The deisel scouts of the late 70s were poor performers, all of the v8s were very strong. Used a lot of the heavy equipment technology. they did rust worse than most cars on the road.

That is soooo lame. That vehicle is a disgrace to that nameplate. Can't wait to see all the soccer mom's rocking the Hummer H3 when it comes out in a couple years.
