Good Lord...

I hope you budgeted for tires, because you are going to be shedding rubber like it was going out of style every time you flex your foot!

NICE!

Man I excited to see your numbers. I have to say you will be the best contender here and I know you did your research on this project. I anxious to see your process. I am a little worried about your exhaust sizing I would have done the 3" back but that may be ok. Did you go with a larger throttle body or port your it.

Man I thought I was going to be the first to hit 450 crank but you got a nice package there. On the transmission you upgraded the gears too or just had extra oiling done to it.
Did you get the APR head bolt studs ?

Keep us updated on the project.

Thats one hell of a setup your getting ready to put in there. How much $$ have you dropped on parts so far?

Jim,
Just so you know, when changing the color of a car, it's best to do it when the engine is out.

I am assuming that you will no doubtedly want to show off that hott new engine. If you do that, in my opinion, with a different colored engine bay or one that hasn't been shot properly(i.e., engine and all still in it), it would not look the best it could.

Just my $.02 and experience growing up in a body shop.

Mike

yeah, its going to have to be modified more than likely, but it will due for now. Ive already spent quite a bit of money on this project, school, etc. Its just something to get me started.

Im still looking into the head bolts. Rick said it was about $250 for the set which sounds pretty pricey. I guess is there any real advantage in having the APR studs compared to just new oem studs?

Im guessing this wont be near completion until about December. As for what numbers I expect to put down, im not sure. I certainly think 450 crank hp is certainly acceivable on 18 psi.

As for tuning, I might make a road trip out to Arizona and have Street Flight tune it for me.

It is a 63 exhaust trim, and at 380 fwhp, 42lb injectors would be at an 80% duty cycle.

Roger, yes im still thinking about changing the color of my car. Right now, im leaning towards the Velocity Red Mica they are using on the RX-8. But it wont be until next year until i get it repainted, and who knows, maybe ill find another color i like better by then.

Tom, I believe im using the same size intercooler core as you. The spearco part # is 2-200 and measures 6" long x 4" wide x 3.75" tall. I still havent received it yet though. Im still have to get the turbo in the car so I can give Street Flight the dimensions of how the turbo sits, so they can weld it up properly.

Ill be sure to keep you guys updated.

I don't know, I'm not arguing the use of 42# injectors if you use all 18psi, but I don't know if you will use that much to generate only 380 wHP.
By the way, I'm already well over 400 HP at the crank in my machine. Remember, I set down 303 wHP with only 5.75psi and my stock 60mm TB at SF on 91 octane fuel.
I'm running between 8-8.5psi now with a 70mm throttlebody and 93 octane gas daily. Calculations are 415 crank HP with conservative estimates, but if the percentages don't lie then 420+ crank is more like it.
I expect MUCH higher if you are running 15-18#'s of boost. Oh for the joy of having our two cars in the same place, one in the 1st and one in the 3rd lane of a 3 lane road and some sucker with a V8 or a SRT-4 (had to throw the last car in there) in the middle!

Intercooler: That sounds like the same intercooler dimensions to me. I know it works great for me.

Exhaust sizing: I'm worried that you may have sized your exhaust housing a little on the small side too. I don't know what your boost threshold is supposed to be but I'm guessing your looking for full boost by 3500 rpm or so.
Will this choke out your exhaust at high rpm and high boost?
You could be looking at as much as 730 CFM at 7000 rpm and 18psi. That is a lot of airflow my friend.
I'm guessing you may make your HP mark, but you will have much higher midrange torque than anyone we've seen so far!! I fear that the power may drop off though before redline and peak numbers may not be as high as they could be with that setup.
However, on further speculation, you are probably reaching for boost earlier since your compression is only 8.5:1 and the engine will be a dog before boost comes on. Probably a good compromise I guess.

No matter what happens, I'm rooting for you!

Tom

Yeah, like i said, i dont really know what to expect as far as hp goes. Im going with lower compression, but a higher boost, so we'll see how it reacts. And yes, that was one of the reasons, i did go with this exhaust trim. You figure im not going to be running 18 psi daily LOL! I do want some low end power. Right now, I just want it running and running properly! Hopefully I dont run into any problems.
