(I do know how to spell stupid by the way...)

Well - in a couple days we'll soon see if my problem was a sticking IAC.

I took it off to clean and test it...well... a 9volt battery wasn't satisfying our testing juices...we (my dad who is a electrical engineer and I'm on the mechanical side) decided to test it using the car battery.... Hey guess what, it doesn't work anymore.

Bye Bye IAC

Of course, after the fact we realised that the car battery had just a little more juice that what the valve needed...plus I'm not sure what I was supposed to be looking for anyway...

I suspected a bad IAC...and now I will find out when I buy a new one tomorrow...or the next day, depending when NAPA gets it in. I will be QUITE P1SSED if I toasted a perfectly good IAC valve... well...live and learn right....RIGHT?

IAC internal diode doesn't like reverse polarity, also coil receives a modulated pulse signal from PCM and may not be rated for continuous 12 volts.

Well - I'm really hoping that I fried a part that was on its way out...

I'm on the phone right now with NAPA auto parts to get one ordered.

They want $119....Ford wants $160

Who do you think I'm going with?

I have tersted my IAC from the battery on many occasions. If it is working you will hear a click. Like Doug said it doesn't tike to have the polarity reversed. That could have fuged it up.
