Has anyone come across this,
[image]http://www24.brinkster.com/96contourgl/problem.bmp[/image]
if the image doesn't work i'll repost when I get home, but basicly on the passenger most vent on the cluster surround, the pin is broken letting the vent fall out. I'm jsut looking for info to see if people have had that problem and how to fix. My idea is to use some sort of dowel and jb weld it in, but wondering if there is another way.

Thanks

speaking of vent problems(not to detract from you post) my 00 tour the vent for the windshield defrost, on the far right side it's popped up, and i can't get it to stay down! I just happen to notice the same prob. on another car parked at a store over the weekend too. Any sugg. on how to repair it?

oh, I know that problem well. I've just glued it back on several times, but it keeps breaking off after someone moves the vent. I need to do something more permanent.

I just bought a used dash surround and it was like this, to I think I'm gonna try drilling a hole and putting some sort of Dowel into it to see if that helps, i'll let you know on the status.

Take it to the dealer. I don't know what they charge, but they cover it with a big black piece of plastic. That used to be the "dash warp recall" but the recalls over now.

sorry to hijack the post,

but does anyone know how to remove the vent assembly all the way on the passenger side?
not the one in the dash cluster, the one all the way on the right all by itself

thanks

My idea worked perfectly, drilled out where the existing peg was, and get a small piece of 1/4" dowel trim so the vent will pop into place, cut to length and glue into hole, paint if prefered, otherwise just wait for (I used jb weld) to dry then reinstall on your car and enjoy working vents

Depends on the model and dash trim... more recent Contours have a pop-out vent on the passenger side, while Mystiques (at least early ones) have a vent which is anchored in from the back with 2 screws.... There is another post on this topic... apparently you have to lower the glovebox to reach up behind to the two screws.
