I am running Windows XP Pro (maybe that's my problem? ) My real problem is this: my clock does not keep time whatsoever. It will maintain time for about 3-4 minutes, then I'll look down in the corner checking to see what time it is, and it's the same time (or 3-4 min after) from when I synchronized it. I had to download AtomicPCClock just so I can find out what time it is by my computer. What gives? It hasn't always done this, but it's been about a month now, and I've rebooted (reformatted the hard drive with a fresh install) my computer 3 times in the year and a half since I built it (hey, learn as you go ) and my most recent reboot was beginning of the summer. If any additional info would help you in your assessment, please ask. And whatever insight you have to offer, please do!

Maybe the MB battery is dead? Just a shot in the dark.

I've had the same problem myself, on both my laptop and desktop, both with XP.

I know it's not the battery (at least on the desktop) because I just replaced it a month ago. And the laptop is only a few months old, so that's doubtful.

Well, I might try replacing it. If it was dead, though, wouldn't that mess up other things? Like I thought maybe always reset the system to default time. I'm still always learning, so I maybe I don't really know what I'm talking about. However, the time when the computer is restarted every morning is the last time that I synched before shutting it down, which I do properly every time...

A dead battery usually does reset to default time. But for about $2, it's worth a shot.

Well, votes are in and battery wins hands down. I'll give it a shot and let you know! Thanks!

If replacing the battery doesn't work... ...this is a real shot in the dark , but... try finding a program called irqboost to select higher priority for IRQ8 (real time clock)... a search through the registry can also find the setting manually...look for irqpriority or just priority or irq8 etc...there are other irq's there set to various levels of priority... set the irq8 priority to whatever the entry is for high instead of normal. I'm not using windows now so I can't search the accurate key names.
If my suggestion sucks then...
/me slap /me

oh yeah... boosting IRQ 8 can sometimes show a noticable performance improvement... don't ask me why 'cause I don't know, but do a search about irq8 priority anyway... it's a Windows secret
