It's not the battery! The battery supliments power to the cmos while the system is powered down. If it's running and the time drift's off you like have some sort of software or hardware error!

Reboot the system and see if it reverts to the right time. If so it's a software problem. If not is a hardware problem. Check your time zone and make sure Xp is fully patched. What kind of system do you have?

Try this, but change the value to something like 6 hours. Also, change the server to something other than time.microsoft.com
