After my mechanic put an UDP and waterpump with the metal impeller on my SVT this morning, he said I should get a set of phenolic spacers. He said one of his friends put them on his ricer and gained 15-20 horsepower. I know anything you can do to get cold air into the engine will help but I never heard of these before. What are they and where can I get them. I have a 2000 SVT. Thanks

I'd take the UDP off personally. (Very long story read up if you are interested)

Find another mechanic.

...and TB spacers add zero power. (dyno proven countless times)

It's old school thinking to believe a TB spacer would work like a carb spacer. The design of the "dry" manifolds now days is so much supperior to intake velocity and proper cylinder filling.
Adding a spacer between the TB and UIM does nothing but make you fabricate more parts to make it work. Nothing else.

What's a "dry" manifold? I've never heard this term used before.

In a carbureted car and throttle body injected cars, the intake manifold had air and gas vapor going through it, ie: Wet. On port fuel injection, air only in the manifold, hence dry. The fuel is injected into the intake port on the head, just above the intake valve.

On another note, some carbureted cars suffered from excessive heat on the carburetor , causing the fuel to boil in the carb. The phenolic spacer insulated it from the heat. But on other cars, the lack of heat allowed the carb to freeze up under certain conditions. The insulated spacer helped if you had a heat problem and hurt if you didn't.
