there is nothing right with your statements....
there is no way it dyno'd at 215 fwhp with only a header (don't say headers!) and a catback. There has to be a lot of other work done to that, like a turbo, or a lot of internal work, to reach 215 at the wheels. Sounds like this dyno was broken with 215 hp and 110 ft/lbs....the stock motor in this car would be a b18c i believe. maybe b18c1....this car, tuned right, would easily beat the stock svt.

LOL.. This actually made me laugh... I had a 99 Si for 4 years, and it dynoed 144hp/112tq with exhaust.. with a AEM CAI, Exhaust, Cam gears 153hp/117tq.. so to get a b18 to 215 whp you would need some serious mods. a b18c (what ever the type r motor is) with some serious internal mods with some ridiculos head work, this would set you back about $5-7k. it's not worth it to build a all motor honda motor unless you have some cash to throw around. and alos the tq would be up around 130-150 with that much whp

hondas with 215HP and 150 tq... i want my HP/TQ #'s to match as closely as possible. HP means nothing if you dont have torque...IMHO anyway.

actually a type r motor is the b18c5. the b18c or b18c1 is just the gsr motor(vtec). But yeah, the type r motor would be worth it if i had some extra cash. My friend has the "Honda Tuners..." book, where it shows you how to build a turbo'd gsr motor pushin 477 hp(at crank of course). good stuff and a very informative book.
Zippy, that's what happens when you have a 4 cylinder motor. Get a V8 if you want them to match.

Honda motors are high reving low tq motors... w/o tq it's hard to get off the line fast. even the turbo motors still have relativily low tq for there hp ratings.

well i understand that after you mod them the hp goes up alot while TQ goes up only a little. but hondas have very little TQ to begin with if they are the 1.6 liter civic motors. on a side note, turbos would only make take off times worse if they dont have the proper mods to accompany it, turbo lag...unless the turbo kicks in at like 1200RPMs which is possible, but not economical. and they would have to be running a Higher PSI to give them a decent launch IMO.

actually honda motors respond pretty well to turbos and spercharges. lag isnt really an issue due to the fact that the motor doesnt make any power untill it hits around 5000 rpms anyways, so reaching full boost at around 3500-4500 would be the best situation not 1200rpms. I cut pretty decent 60' with my Si. I think it was 2.0-2.2 on stock tires. and the best to date in my CSVT is 2.4.
But i'm glad the honda is gone..

Something else you have to realize is that it takes a hell of a lot of rpm to make real HP numbers in a Honda.

There is a huge difference in "real" performance between making 200 FWHP at 6000rpm then verses 200FWHP at 8500rpm.

Bench racing peak numbers is utterly pointless!!!
