why is that wrong. if top speed is 143 (drag limited established), then it should be hit in 5th gear at max rpms. the svt goes above 6000rpms.




I don't know what the RPM would be at 143 MPH since I have not tried to go that fast, but there is no reason to believe that it MUST be at max RPM.

I'm not sure, but it seems like I'm tacking 3500 RPM at 80 MPH. If that is correct, my slide rule shows that 143 MPH would be pretty close to 6300 RPM. This is about what I would expect, that you would run out of horsepower before you hit red line in top gear.

Part of the art of tuning for drag racing is to find the gear that will put you very close to red line at the end of the 1/4 mile. This is a little bit of an over simplification since there are many other factors involved.

With this thought in mind, it is concevable that you could get a little more top speed with a slightly lower gear set, if you could find or make a gear set that would get you into this "sweet spot". I suspect that the performance 4.50 gear set that is available somewhere is too low unless you were able to raise the red line.
