Friends at CEG
I haven't posted in a long time. I'm an old man of 56 who loves his Mystique. 98.5 LS 2.5V6. The car has held up well and needed no warranty work except for recalls. The Alternator went last year. I was stuck on vacation and paid a dealer $500 to replace it. Claimed he had to remove a tie rod? I still love the car and get "new car" excited whenever I experience that great V6. I have not done a lot of "mods". I replaced all the speakers with Pioneer 6X8's and Last year purchased a Kenwood 819 HU with mp3 caspabilites and did away with my sony cd changer. Put in some Sylvania Brite White Headlights. If You were to do one performance upgrade would you get a chip or put in a K&N intake?
Gripes - Tires- Goodyears lasted 27.000mi, Dunlap d60's lasted 20,000, I now have Sumitomo SRIXON4's which seem to be the best riding tire of the three. We'll see how long they last.
I hate the way the back bumper get's scratched.(my wifes beach chairs) Otherwise the body has held up well.

Well I keep my cars about ten years so I've got another four with the Merc. All my friends have SUV's,Taurus's and Gran marquis and GM bubble cars. The kids are grown and out of the house. I saw a FOCUS with Ground effects the other day... Take care CEG'ers.

Ahh yes, the powers of Viagra.

But seriously, thanks for your comments. I too get that "new car" feeling all the time. This has been a VERY reliable car for me too.

If you're looking for tires, I put on some Goodyear Eagle HP's about 40,000 miles ago. I've used them all season, including the winters up here in New England, and they've held up great. Dry/Wet/Snow - No complaints.

With 175,000 on the car now, I'm planning on running it to about 200K and then looking for an upgrade. Proper care goes along way with these cars...

I just put the Sumitomo's on. Hopefully I won't need tires for a while. I guess the thing that is most interesting and I know it has been discussed here many times is why these cars failed. I helped my Daughter shop a couple years ago. She wanted an Accord. We looked at Accords, Camry's Etc. I didn't like any as much as my Mystique. (Since then I have kind of fallen for the new Altima). Poor marketing I guess. Even when I shopped in 98, the salesman kept trying to sell me a Sable. Take care all. Go EAGLES!
