.... That in total sales won't equal a week's production of the Ford F-150.
You're talking very niche market cars there; and the same applies to most of the cars carried in Europe. The vast majority of people in this country simply are not willing to pay for the cars Ford (and others) carry in Europe. Those cars cost as much as 50% more than their closest US counterparts in the US do.
The Mondeo ranges from $23,000 to $40,000
The Focus in Britain ranges from $19,000 to $45,000
Yeah, those cars would be great for FoMoCo over on this side of the pond. However, those prices would not, and they'd only get considerably higher if they were made by US autoworkers.
Imagine how many cars Ford would sell if they didn't have a single automobile line under $20,000. They'd price themselves right out of the business.
Do you know why the cars in the UK cost so much ? Come back to me when you figure it out .... I know why.
Sure, trucks are always going to sell more here, unfortunately.
The fact though that Subaru & Mitsubishi can intoduce low volume hi performance cars in the $30k bracket and sell them shows there is a market for them. I doubt that they are selling these cars at a loss. Kudos to Dodge for introducing a domestic competitor to them. I hope there are more.
