I decided to check out the ford europe site tonight and i was surprised. http://www.ford.co.uk1st they still make the mondeo. I thought they had stopped. They look pretty nice too. Kind of have a luxury car look there. Gives it a nice stature. 2nd they have this car called the fusion. Thats a nice looking car. looks like a compact suv, like the porsche one. Man if they would only replace the escape with this. They would sell a lot of cars. Also the fiesta. It doesn't look all gay anymore. It looks like a smaller focus. But it still just looks nicer than the focus thats made here. I also checked out the streetka. This is a sweet-azz looking car. I would buy one if i could. but of course ford would never bring out such a nice car here. IT would sell TOO MUCh! cant have that now could we. They have a focus called the cmax. Its a focus but its a mini-van. Why cant they bring that here. The focus is so popular, this would probably sell. It seems that if ford lost the crown-vic, taurus, escort zx2, excursion, escape, and their van lines (not the commercial e-series) and brought over the streetka, the fiesta, the cmax and the fusion they'd probably make a lot more money. I mean they have redesigned the f-150, that should sell, and the mustang, which should sell, they should be all set. But they need some more stylish small car lines. It seems that ford has forgotten about the starting out kid. All they get is the focus and the zx2. Big woop. Everyone is buying a honda. Why? They look nice and are cheap and small. There's my rant for the night. Ohh yeah i think im gonna move to europe when i finish college. Get me a Streetka. -Rob

Theres a reason though Ford sells trucks here and cars there. Americans no longer buy cars. Ford's #1 seller for a while I think has been there truck line. Besides would you want to be on American roads with American drivers in their trucks while you drive a Ka around? I sure as heck wouldn't, scares me just to think about. You're right though, Europe gets all the fun toys.

to answer your question. yes. the rest of the world gets much nicer, faster, more efficient cars than we do. and it sucks. and it won't change until some catastrophic event turns people away from SUVs and back to cars.
if you want to make a change, use your buying power to do it. and lobby for increased gas taxes to try and get the SUV road hogs to find another way to take the kids to dance lessons.

Americans by and large won't spend the money for the nice performance stuff, there just plain isn't the demand from people that will really drop the money on them.
I do percieve that slowly changing, but unfortunately, not quickly enough for me.

I disagree. Look at the EVO, SRT-4 and STi.

.... That in total sales won't equal a week's production of the Ford F-150.
You're talking very niche market cars there; and the same applies to most of the cars carried in Europe. The vast majority of people in this country simply are not willing to pay for the cars Ford (and others) carry in Europe. Those cars cost as much as 50% more than their closest US counterparts in the US do.
The Mondeo ranges from $23,000 to $40,000
The Focus in Britain ranges from $19,000 to $45,000
Yeah, those cars would be great for FoMoCo over on this side of the pond. However, those prices would not, and they'd only get considerably higher if they were made by US autoworkers.
Imagine how many cars Ford would sell if they didn't have a single automobile line under $20,000. They'd price themselves right out of the business.

Do you know why the cars in the UK cost so much ? Come back to me when you figure it out .... I know why.
Sure, trucks are always going to sell more here, unfortunately.
The fact though that Subaru & Mitsubishi can intoduce low volume hi performance cars in the $30k bracket and sell them shows there is a market for them. I doubt that they are selling these cars at a loss. Kudos to Dodge for introducing a domestic competitor to them. I hope there are more.

I personally think most of those European vehicles are ugly. If you ask me, Ford Austrailia gets the better deals on cars, like the Falcon and whatever exactly those 'Ford Performance Vehicles GT-P' are with the Boss 290 V8 kickin out almost 390 HP. They also have the 'new' Focus ST170 over there with a really badass 3d model at www.fordfocus.com.auYeah, I'll take a Falcon XR8 over just about anything currently in the US today...those are some sexy beasts. And look, they have a Falcon Futura...hmm, I wonder if we're looking into the future at what the Futura will look like over here...

I agree. They really should bring the mondeo over here. Its alot nicer then the taurus. But they would have to drop the taurus if they did. The mondeo is almost the same size as the taurus and would be too much competition for both. Also like some other people have said, most americans don't want cars they want trucks and SUVs. I lived in Germany for 4 years and I don't think I saw one SUV. I also saw very few large trucks. I did see alot of hatchbacks and stationwagons. Mostly fuel efficent cars because IRC gas is around $4-5 gal. I've never seen so many BMWs and GTIs in my life.

There are three ways to do things: the right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way!
Isn't that just the wrong way?
Yeah, but faster!

Umm...that's exactly what they're doing, although it won't be called the Mondeo and it'll look somewhat different.
"Think of it, if you like, as a librarian with a G-string under the tweed." Clarkson on the Mondeo.
