Well my transmission was basically resting on the frame and it was obvious that the rear/lower engine mount was squashed on the bottom side. This is the mount that attaches to the back side of the engine and the rear subframe. I have the engine supported with lots of wood and a scissors jack but can't find a way to remove the mount. The 2 bolts to the subframe and the center pivot bolt are out, but there just doesn't seem to be enough room to get the mount out of there.

Has anyone change this mount on their ATX tour that can share the trick to getting this thing out. Do I need to drop the subframe a bunch? Maybe jack the engine up a bunch? A search didn't reveal any good info regarding this mount on an ATX so I'm stumped for now. My top tranny mount is also shot, but that one's a piece of cake to change. That lower one is a real biatch...

That is an engine roll dampener. Lost mine last year and tried to get to it. I ended up at the shop down the street so the car could be hoisted overhead. Worth the 200 bucks (price included parts) for the work because one of the bolts needed drilled out. When it's in the air a transmission jack can safely hold the engine up. I think they took the center bolt out and separated the mount to get it in out. The Ford shop manual is useless when it came to this repair. I was wanting to fill the dampener with that 3M puddy to make it stronger.

Thanks 2x95... I went ahead and reassembled everything seeing that I wasn't going to get the old mount out. (or the new one back in! ) I managed to get all the bolts out, but as you advised, there's no way to remove the mount. I did manage to stuff a slab of rubber on the underside of the rear roll restictor and fill it with polyurethane using a hose attached to my caulk gun. This will have to last until I can get it into a shop to do the work. The polyurethane should be dry by about midnight or so...
