EDIT: on another note, i would replace it with an HMS (high performance) MTX 75. the problem is that tauruses automatics shift on the column (at least the older ones did) and SVT's shift on the floor. if you do this make sure you get a Torsen or Quaiffe (sp?) differential as 3L with a stock diff dont mix...
not to offend zippy zetec, but hes so far off from the truth!
the engine he has is the 3L, the same exact 3L we use for our swaps. he can certainly get it back on the road for less than 2K. just stick with the tranny you got, the HMS tranny he is talking about is a 5 speed manual, beefed up by terry haines, and to use one in your car would be very costly and difficult to do. i suggest getting a new engine from a junkyard (make sure its 99+ and the earlier ones had a different bolt pattern IIRC)you might need to swap heads if you get a different year engine. i bought my 99 complete 3L with 25K on it for $620 shipped from ebay
no offense taken russel. i have never priced them, i was just posting what i thought it would be. you would certianly know more about it that i do, so im sorry for misinforming you, i was just thinking it would be badass to have a 5 speed in a taurus. but he is right about it being very difficult to swap froma column shifting ATX to a floor shifting MTX.
