Guys,
I'm totally not a Ford guy but I've had a company car for 2 years. It's a TAURUS. Yes, I know I'm on the Contour forums but I've heard you guys know a lot of stuff here about these cars/motors - and honestly, I haven't been able to find ppl that really know there stuff about the Taurus.

Here's my deal:

'99 Taurus 24V DOHC motor (vin: 'C' - I think). Car was sweet (IMO), alloys, climate control, leather, 6 disc, etc. I like it.
Company car.
Got laid off, car was being driven by ex co-worker, threw a rod.
I've got a chance to get thsi car back for $500. Seems like a good deal.

Tranny is auto (obviously) and had already been fixed under warranty from ford (replaced) but has about 40K miles on it since.

Here's my questions:

How easy to tear this motor out and replace with junkyard motor?

Can I (should I) swap in another motor for better performance (or is this the best performing motor)?

As far as trannies...
Swap the stock one back in or is it an easy swap to get an SVT tranny and do that?
Any help I would appreciate as I need to make the decision to buy this car in the next 3 business days or so (next wednesday).

I'm mechanically inclined...have replaced motors on older VW's.
Installed a s/c on my gti vr6 that I've got now and could probably replace the motor if I had to...don't wanna tho.
Have done cams before, etc.
Just to give you guys an idea, I'm not a total idiot when it comes to performance, just when it comes to Fords.

Please help????

Later,

Nater
