K & N replacement for stock filter. Fits right in the box. Have had for about a year I suppose so I cleaned it. Was dirty, but not filthy.

Soaked in the K & N cleaner and re-oiled (Not too much, CEG is clear on not over oiling the filter!).

Anyways, seems to have picked up a few HP's. Seems quicker and peppier and less stutter when cold.

Funny thing is says can go 50K between cleaning. How is that possible unless you drive in a clean room..?

Anyways, I'm just posting to kill time at this boring job!

50k is a very generous estimate. I do it about every 10k.

Not K&N, but I netted a huge grin after I replaced my fuel filter, and cleaned my ITG. No more stutter and bog for me.

Regular maintenance is critical and relatively cheap.

Nope. I'm one of the few (only?) running the ITG foam, open-element filter from BAT. (ITG=Induction Technology Group).

Just did mine at 10k .... it was dirty. Noticed a pool of congealed oil in the bottom of the airbox too when I pulled it to clean it. Hmmm.

Red oil? If so your filter may have had just a tad too much oil on it...

The K&N filter should not be cleaned all that often! Only when it is VERY dirty should you need to do so. Every time you clean a K&N filter you loose some of its filtering capability. 25 times is the max number of times you can clean one. Then you should throw it away. It says so in the instructions!
Maintenance of the filter is best. Gently tap out any loose dirt and re-oil where necessary. As the filter gets dirty it soaks up a bit of oil(giving you more filtering surface)that you will need to replace.

10,000 miles x 25 cleanings = 250,000 miles.
Depending on where you drive your car, you sometimes can't go the recommended 50,000 miles. I've seen people with less than 30k miles since a cleaning get a CEL because the filter was so dirty it was blocking the air flow. Because it is an oiled filter, you cant simply knock off dust and dirt, it sticks to the filter.
