It was all blackened from dust so it's hard to know if it was red. I believe it was filter oil though.

This was the first clean from new. The car "runs" ok, however I think it fouled the MAF so I'll need to look at that.

Yeah, a lot of oil can coat the MAF and give bad info to the system.

I'm not sure how to clean it, but there's a million posts on that. Should be pretty simple, just be careful with the tiny wires!

When you cleaned the filter you were careful not to over oil???

Thats the thing .... the oil that I found was from the factory oiling of the filter, not my oiling !! When I cleaned it the other week, I was careful. Damage done though I suppose.

Here's my thread querying K&N's from the factory.

Well I don't think there's damage. I think the MAF can be cleaned successfully and you'll be right back to full power.

Weird that they over oiled it. I hope it wasn't a return from someone who screwed it up.

But, since you've cleaned it and done it right you should be fine.
