My gilrfriend has had like 5 alternator put on her car (contour 1999)in the last 20,000 miles Is there any idea of what may be going wrong.

Obviously something is causing alternators to go bad that fast. It may be the serpentine belt is out of alignment and wearing out the bearings, (you didn't say exactly what was going bad so I'm guessing) or you are having some sort of power surge that's burning up the electrics. Or, and this is a long shot but have you bought the same rebuilt alt from the same place time after time ? Or is someone replacing them, charging you for a replacement and just dumping some brushes into an out of round stator which would cause premature brush wear ? Give us some more details please.
