I just put a system in the car, and I think im about to break my 3rd brake-light. It rattles bad and I think I blew a couple bulbs on there after like two weeks. Is there something I can do to reinforce that thing, because its just rattling worse and worse. Another rattle spot is the trunk, and its the wierdest spot because everything on there is tightly fitted. Must be something inside the trunk door that is making the noise. Is there a way to shut that up too?

Welcome to the Contour... as you continue adding to your system (and you will, just wait and see... mwa ha ha ha) you will come to realise just how shittily put together the contour is, and just how many corners they cut/sanded off during the assembly of the car. I loved my Contour, but seriously my Dad's 86 Jeep Cherokee was put together better than that car. My brother's Contour was even worse than mine.

Over the next few months at least, expect to spend time finding/cancelling those rattles. As you stop them, others will start to appear until you sell the car

I have 2 jl 10 w3's and a ppi A300. My rear deck sounds like it's going to fall apart. I plan to make that my next project. Any tips on what I should do or to look out for? Thx.

The first thing I did was silicone the ribs of the trunk lid. I put duct tape over the flaps inside the fenders. I took the wing off and sprayed foam inside it. Put lots of tape around the holes of the spoiler to keep the foam off the paint. Also you don't put alot in there because most of it will come out the holes. I don't know if it will warp the wing either. Then I put dynamat in the large areas of the trunk lid, the spare tire area and the underside of the rear deck. I tryed to put some dynamat in the smaller areas but I didn't get all of it. So I got some rubber undercoating and sprayed the trunk. Don't spray the dynamat because it will be tacky forever....really. I did mine 6 months ago and its still a little sticky. It didn't really stink up the car like I thought. It will go away after a few days. I took the reflector and license plate off and put duct tape behind them both. My trunklid is very solid now. With 2 12"s in the trunk I have almost no rattles.

2 words Dynamat extreme, fixed all my rear deck/trunk rattling, now the dash is another story, gotta rip into that and go crazy with zip ties , I have yet to do this but its starting to annoy me so it will happen soon.

All you need is some one sided foam tape. The stuff used to go around window air conditioners. And a good ear. Screw Dynomat, You can spend $50 on the stuff and not get any improvement. I use underbody coating instead. Expanding foam is the best but is not worth the hassle unless your a serious audio buff and you basicly want to ruin your car. And never use duct tape to stop rattles unless your Magiver. If you've ever seen what happens to duct tape over time you know what I mean.

You could modify the rear deck cover where alot of us have put subs... you know that stock 7" cut out in the sheet metal. Remove the rear deck cover and remove the INSULATION from the rear deck where that 7" circle is. This will alow air to pass though the carpet of the rear deck making your system both sound better and rattle less. put some foam tape under there while your at it to solve the problem completely.

lol... I know exactly how you feel. I have 2 JL Audio 12"w3v2's with an 800 watt kenwood amp it is almost to the point where the rattling is almost muted out. But not quite there. The license plate was the first thing i fixed, and there ae thoes 2 little black plugs under the car right about where the spare tire is. One of thoes rattle like hell. So some silicone will do the trick. As for the third brake light is concerned, i have no clue on where to start or how to fix that. It almost looks like the light is hitting the rear window, and sounds like it is. Does anyone know how to strengthen/stop that from rattling. Thankx.
