"He looked and acted rich. That's the type of clientele they get in there," said Lower Merion Detective Charles J. Craig.

Like that's hard to do.

in the 70's i went for about 10 or more test rides and at no time did they ask for any ID.. i could not believe that they would just hand you the keys to a car like that......
i bet the dealerships were owned by the manufactuer.. also when the owner of a dealership is on the scene they have a tighter security.. one chrylser dealership which was owned by the manufacturer had one car stolen per day....mostly new cars on the roof.. some guy would be seen driving it down the ramp and then never return.. well the manufacturer sold the dealership and the new owner had no cars stolen from him in the five years he had the place.... i guess its bad management in the victimized places....

with any robbery of this type... like expensive car or a bank... not like a tv or a stereo... i think if you can pull it off you deserve it. *zips up flame suit*

ive never really thought about it, but i would think that someone from the dealership would ride along with them. IIRC, i went to some used car lot for my SVT, asked for the keys, then me and my dad just jumped in and drove off.

I would think that most places would send a salesman with the driver, oh well-stupid people.

You know why they just let you take off with the car without being too worried? Because they have full insurance on these cars, and if you and your dad steal it, then it was like an instant sale to them, as now they don't have to bother selling it, but they still get the money. As soon as their insurance company would make the requirement to them that they need to photocopy a valid picture ID and run a backround check on any test drivers, then they will eventually up their standards and have to comply. But if the insurance co don't require it, then they don't care. Go ahead and take it if you want?
