No cons, except higher mileage engines if not in decent shape could slowly leak when synthetic is used. Dino oil won't remove the sludge that can be holding your oil in currently and when you switch to synthetic, it'll remove this sludge and reveal your leak. It doesn't cause a leak, just shows you where your leak would have eventually occured. That said, I switched at ~83k miles and have had no problems.
