Would you consider other 8s besides the MTX or JLs?

What did you have in mind??

The JL's are incredible using the door as the enclosure. MTX/Mitek (actually, one of their R&D engineers) made a couple of custom built drivers for me to sample (since they are my sponsor). The MTX's are more linear in their output from 20 - 90 Hz, but they simply do not have the excursion and sensitivity of the JL's. They simply sound like they are working harder to do the same thing the JL's seem to do with ease. Also, the JL's get louder as they get lower and they cleanly reproduced all the information from the "Jurassic Lunch" track from Telarc (which has information down to 7Hz as the T-Rex approaches). Not bad for an 8" in an IB setup.

Remember, these are for sound quality use only.

My suggestion would be for a 8" sub that Adire Audio is prototyping. I talked with a person who made a home sub with one and compared it to higher end 12" HT subs. If I was given correct info, the xmax was quite a bit higher than the JL with 600 watt power handling. If it is anything like their Shiva it might be worth listening to.
