I need some idea on what is wrong...I had a new CD deck (Pioneer)installed by a local shop and some new Polk's in the doors at Circut City. Well, it sounds like ass, I cannot get the volume past 10 (outta 30) with out distortion, and this is on Dave Matthews!! The City says that it is screwd up because the local guys did not bypass the factory Premium Sound amp (which I asked those a-holes to do!!) and the local guys say that the City sucks and they probably put the speakers in out of phase or something. No one wants to fix sh!t, they just want to talk sh!t about each other.
My question...how bad of an affect does not bypassing that amp have on the sound...and how can I PROVE that is a major problem...these jackasses say it sounds better not bypassed!! I assume that is BS!! Is there some way to test out the system? If I can prove one wrong, I am halfway there!!
Please help, I am an idiot in car audio!

Order an installation kit from crutchfield. It will come with all of the wiring harnesses and VERY detailed instructions on how to get it hooked up correctly. They cost about $20 and are car/system specific, so even a "car audio idiot" can get the job done. If you can use a wire stripper and electrical tape, you can install a HU with the crutchfield kits. BTW, it's www.crutchfield.com. It does sound like they didn't bypass the factory amp, which the crutchfield instructions tell you how to do.

I had the same problem with my radio. I could only turn it up to 25 out of 60 before it got distorted. And i got the wiring harness kit from cruchfield and it works great! very detailed instructions and i can now turn my radio up to about 40 out of 60 with much better sound!

You really do need to bypass the amp. The cable is only like 15 bucks or so. If you don't want to order the cable you can do it by hand but it is a pain in the ass. I never let anyone install stereo equipement in my car. All the installers i have met are idiots. Most of them are highschool kids that don't even get trained on how to do it. They all do half-assed jobs in my opinion. If you need help installing anything just email me. I have installed a new head unit, amp, sub, tweeters, and new speakers in my car(it sounds bad ass). Let me know if you need help.

Thanks for the help, guys!! I guess I need to learn to do this stuff myself, the shops around here suck.

It is real easy to do HU installs if you have the mastersheets from Crutchfield. I used to have a fellow CEGer do my installs for me until I learned how to do it myself. If you have half a mind in your head you can do it.

DEFINITELY want to bypass / deinstall the amp. Your pioneer (w MOSFET 45/50?) is overdriving the poor front end of the 'premium' amp, causing the distort-o-matic.
Other choice (not worth it) is to get/make some adapters to lower the power of the speaker level outputs to line level, but then you may lose fidelity, so it is not worth it.
Bypass-o-matic.
