If you mate these two parts together, the entrance to the intake pipe is much smaller than the backside of the MAF, creating a circle in a circle effect that cant be good for airflow -- anyone have a solution to this? I was going to try and expand the opening to the CTA intake pipe, but it seems like it will not expand without cracking.

Looking down through the MAF, the intake pipe looks like this:

(0)

where the ( ) are the maf pipe width, and the 0 is the start of the CTA.

Weird cause IIRC when I mated up my 75MM MAF a few weeks ago with the CTA intake they butted up nicely. My problem was just that the car ran like crap witht he MAF so I had to take it off. Maybe you got the wrong intake pipe from CTA? Or, and I don't say this to treat you like an idiot, maybe you are putting the MAF on backwards because I think the other end is a lot wider.

hehe...no its not backwards. Yes the other end is a lot wider

I didnt specifically ask for a CTA with a wider opening...i didnt know that was an option..is it? Maybe there is an adapter or something I could use.

Well considering your TB is 60mm stock, (63mm optimized), the intake pipe is going to have to taper down somewhere. Do you have a flanged or non-flanged Pro M?

Yes you're right, this setup is obviously not going to net you HP . The best thing to do is to call Chris at CTA and see what he has to say about it. Perhaps you can get a bigger pipe? But if I had to guess, I'd say you'll have to stick with the stock accordian unit.

P.S I haven't done much research, but is an intake pipe really that much better then the stock accordian?

It can be... It seems a lot of the aftermarket parts are smoother than the accordian, but they mostly rely on the silicone couplings to reduce the pipe size from the MAF output to the TB inlet. This leaves abrupt pipe changes and results in the (o) type of fit mentioned above. I fabed up a cone shaped tube that provides a completely smooth transition from the MAF to the TB. It was clear improvement over the accordian!

I wish I had done that now...I was thinking about what the best way to fix it was, and I came to the conclusion that I would have been better off just getting a smooth hose, like a fernco/plumbing hose.

The CTA pipe is wider and smoother than the stock bellows, but I think I am loosing whatever gain that might be giving me with the pipe size difference.

Can you post a picture? When we had our intake pipe mated with a Pro-Flo 75mm bullet on my SVT, the transition, though different pipe sizes, was negligable. In fact, due to the overall length of the combination, the MAF was pushed as close to the intake pipe as possible leaving virtually no distance between the two parts.
