yep, thursday nite i drove home in my new (to me) 99 taurus se...duratec equipped with tilt/slide glass power moonroof, window tints, silverfrost exterior and gray leather interior with front bucket seats and folding rear seats...theres also automatic climate control thank goodness, casette indash and a 6-disc changer in the trunk...the car has the dual outlet exhaust instead of the single tailpipe...looks much cooler me thinks
the car is in excellent condition...went over 64k miles on the drive home and everything works just fine which i could not say about my contour when purchased 2 yrs ago
the duratec 3.0 is oh my damn fun ...finally a taurus that can get out of its own way...it doesn't feel any slower than the 97 v8 sho i test drove over a yr ago...in fact i am more impressed with the power and speed of the 3.0 duratec than i was with the v8 3.4...i can only imagine how quick a 3.0 equipped contour must be
got the car for nearly 4000 dollars less than the sticker price at the dealership due to them having dropped the price online...i worked the deal with the sticker price they wanted (over $11K) and once we had a tentative agreement i let them know that i knew they had the car priced much much lower on the net...got it for <$8k
added a 2/24 ford premium care warranty which covers pretty much everything except me farting in the car and the dealership tossed in an alarm with starter kill at no extra charge...i go back in the morning to have that installed
clicky here fo da pics, yo

Thats awesome. Those Duratec Taurus's really do rock. I remember I took my mom's to High School drags, and did a 16.4 in it, with massive tire spin. You should be happy with it. Good luck!

You must've got an early 99 then. They went to 16" wheels and a single exhaust sometime in the middle of 99. You may re-think your thoughts of the automatic climate control..give it a full test, SOON. My girlfriend had it in her 96 Sable and it was alright, but my dad's had problems w/ his in his 2000 Taurus trying to "find where it wants to go", i.e., bouncing from norm. to max a/c back and forth. It's probably just his, but you never know...all I can say is that he's more happy with the ECC in his 86 Turbo Coupe than his Taurus. Good luck with the new car and welcome to the 3.0 club!

I had one of those (a brand-spanking-new Duratec SES model) rented one weekend when my wife and I were driving from Buffalo to Toronto and back. Fast, smooth, and comfortable. I'd put slightly stiffer shocks on to firm up the suspension response but I could see it being a real daily driver.

Good purhcase. Great deal. I think my folks got their 99 w/ the 24V for 14k with 12k on the clock. Had everything but leather and moonroof. Can't get much better quality transportation for that.

We got my wife's '99 Taurus 24V with 39k miles in December, 2001 at an auction for only $7,000. The car has been perfect ever since. If you've got an "in" that's the way to buy a car. I like her Taurus, though. It could use a little more power off the line, but the mid-range is great!

Off the line? When I drove my folks after they picked it up I smoked em from the 1st stop sign. My mom is like "be nice to my new car".

It may just be that I'm comparing a stick-shift take off in my CSVT versus the automatic in the Taurus.
