Class D amps haven't reached the SQ level of the best Class A/B amps but they really aren't too far behind, especially in their price range. I doubt it's the damping factor. I used to be a big fan of huge damping factors, but when you really look at what DF is, and how it's affected by the wiring of a system, it is highly over rated. In reality, there is virtually no difference between a amp with a DF of 200 or 500 or a 1000.
