Nope, but I'll be back in Costa Rica this November for a few weeks, sans Contour (I don't drive ANYTHING that doesn't have a lot of clearance and 4-wheel drive there). I'm usually there 2-3 times a year.

Maybe as close as you get to a CEG member in that part of the world...

Do you do much driving outside the main cities? If so, how in the HELL do you manage to keep the car in one piece? I've been told that the roads outside the main highways in Honduras are about on-par with Costa Rica's for the most part (i.e., REALLY BAD).

Just curious.

My Contour is only for City/Suburb driving. Yes for work outside the city I use my Nissan 720 1983 4x4. Contour will break apart on any dirt road.

Maybe you can come to Honduras next trip. Lot's of good beaches, mayan ruins and good people. (Sponsored by the Honduras Tourism Institute).

LOL! I'm booked on trips for the next year, but maybe in a few years...

Has most of the area recovered from Hurricane Mitch back in '98? An acquaintance of mine took the Pan-American highway from Mexico down to Nicaragua a few years back and mentioned that there were spots in Honduras that still looked like it was carpet-bombed.

What are your favorite spots in Honduras? I must admit I know little about the country or it's people.

Hurricane Mitch is long gone. Everything has been returned to normal.

I will recommend the Islands. Second largest coral reefs on the world! Mayan World is awsome.

What do you think?

Although I'm not from C.A., I spent 2 years stationed in the Panama CZ a long, long time ago. While in Panama I did manage a TDY to Tegucigalpa to help out the military attache group that was located there.
All I can say is Central America is one BEAUTIFUL place....even with the rainy season!

Those times were the Cold War-Nicaragua-Panama Comunism times.

Things have really changed since.

The Mils were gods around here. Not anymore.
