V6 Mustang
3.8 is a rock but it's going to be hard to find a used one taken care of.

V6 Contour
The Contour can be just as reliable and is ten times more fun! More interior and space and if you get and SVT killer looks that will turn more heads than a Mustspank.

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

the mustang handles like a pig. I personally wouldn't buy anytihng less than an 03 cobra, new. Though i am inthe market for an old stang to use as a drag car. The 3.8 is probably about even with a well driven 2.5 mtx...heavy car. I wouldn't hold anything against you for getting a gt but the 3.8 would be a definite downgrade

Seems like around here (The heart of Ford Country) I see either old people or girls driving v6 mustangs. Otherwise its some poser or ricer who thinks his car is fast and tries to race everybody, or has riced it out and put Cobra badges on it.

Mustangs are muscle cars, so the only one to get is the v8 manual IMO. The rest are cars for people who just like to pretend they have something sporty!

You can still have plenty of fun with a 3.8 with a 5-speed, especially if it's a newer one with the 200hp, instead of the measly 145-150hp. One thing this car has that the Tour lacks is torque.

My sister recently sold her 94 3.8 5-speed.. 9 years, 120K miles, and still running strong. In all that time, the only things that had to be replaced were tires, brakes, a clutch, and the radiator. I had more than that go wrong with my Contour in less than 4 years.

The 3.8 is OK, and about equally as reliable as a contour, probably less recalls than we have. It's handling sucks (me and my friends regularly compare my 'tour and their stangs) compared to our cars but it is a little faster. I'd say get a v8 5speed if you want a stang. If you want a v6 auto, my friend will probably be selling his soon, regularly maintained and very clean.

V6 handels like a slug...unless you get the right after market suspension.....and i ahve beaten the majority that have show up at the drag strip by about a cars length...there cool and all, but if you want performance and handeling in a nice Grocery-Getter package, stick with the contour or SVT contour.

I'd much rather have a v8 (GT or cobra) 5speed stang than a 'tour. Even a v6 stang with a turbo or supercharger and suspension work would be my pick over a contour. The mustang is a very driveable car, it has its weak points and strong points, but RWD and a real size engine bay are nice to have. I believe GTs are a 1/2" lower than v6s. And cobra are even lower and have plenty of other suspension mods. There is only so far you can go with a contour.

Me too. If it doesn't have a V8 and a manual, it's just not a muscle car in my opinion, just a cheap knockoff. That goes for any cars that were manufactured originally as muscle cars, IE: Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, etc. They put the v6 and automatic in it to appeal to the masses, which cheapens what the car stands for. I know they do this to make money, but it just doesn't work for me. IMO.
