My contour's gas pedle sometimes get really sticky. A few times, after waiting at the red light, I had car behind honking at me because I couldn't get the gas peddle to go down. Pretty embarrasing!

It's only sticky at the totally "up" position. When it's stuck, I had to tab it a couple times to get it moving again. Once it's pressed down a little bit, it operates smoothly through out the full range of the pedal travel.

I figure some kind of lubrication is in order. The question is WHERE. The pedal itself? Or the throttle linkage under the hood? Anything in between?

And, what kind of lube?

Try lubing everything

When the car is parked start it and under the hood try and push the throttle manually and see if it sticks, if it does, the bolt may be too tight or it needs lubing. I dunno too much about it so good luck.

This would be a good good idea.

If the throttle body itself is sticking, cleaning it (preferably off the vehicle) is the way to go.

If the cable is hanging up replace it. There is no dependable way to lubricate the cable. There was a recall issue with throttle cables but I believe it was just on 95's

i bet he's got so much gunk built up in the TB it's sticking the throttle plate shut. I had the same exact problem.

My CSVT had the same problem. All you have to do is clean the throttle body, it gets gunked up. I dont think you need to go to the extent of removing it off the engine. It sounds like yours is really gummed up. Mine never got that sticky, just slight hesitation.

Had the same problem and sprayed some wd40 on the throttle body linkage, seems to have fixed the problem!
