I know. I know.

You don't even want to know what my wife would do to me if I pulled something like that!

I'm pretty sure a 10" wouldn't fit in this application (especially after examining your pic).

There's an additional 1.5" due to the thickness of the enclosure and the ~2" from going to a 10 from an 8.

Sooooooooo, what would you guys pick from the 2 options I listed?

A pair of 3000s in sealed/ported?

A single Blue Thunder in sealed/ported?

I'm still coming up with some other options!!

How about a Human 005 woofer. It was used as the midbass in some of the old Genisis systems. It has a 10mm xmax (not too shabby for an 8". 88 dB sensitivity. Considering that it was used in the Genisis 1 system, it's SQ would most likely be better than anything MTX makes at any price. Now I just have to come up with an alignment that would give you what you are looking for.

I took a look at them. It does look like an interesting possibility. Do you know what the cone material is made of? From the pics on their site, the woofers all seem to be untreated paper with foam surrounds.

Anyways, I definately know one place that I'm gonna look for home theater speaks when my Bose speaks are retired. I like how they've got everything available as components, so you can design and build your own setup. Very neat.

I'm not sure what they are made of. The surrounds are foam but can be special ordered with rubber. at 59.00 a piece, there really doesn't seem to be anything that compares.

btw, human speakers are some of the best sounding around. and you can basically piece together old EPI and Genesis speakers at that site.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still a bit undecided at this point. I think I'll do some measuring and figuring on the enclosure tonight. That'll probably do most of the thinking for me.

I'll make sure to post some pics of my "project" as it's progressing.

Later,
-Colin
