Dave, some might say all you offer is off the wall.

My concerns are about the sub's sensitivity of only 87db, and they're not butyl/poly subs (possible longevity issues?).

Well, everybody, whatcha think?

87 @ 1 watt for one. Add 3dB for two 8" drivers. 80w to each should put you at the 109dB mark, plus car gains. Should be loud enough as 'filler'.

I'll build it out of 3/4" MDF, liquid nails, pillow stuffing, automotive grade carpeting, etc... the usual stuff.

It will be dual-chambered and be mounted to the bottom of the rear deck. It'll be about 6" tall and will span the width of trunk necessary to provide the box volume I need.

The amp will be mounted on the face of the box. The subs will be bottom mounted to allow for maximum clearance under the rear deck. I'll cut all of the corresponding holes in the rear deck sheet metal and dampen/brace as necessary.

Yup, it'll be in my SVT.

Space is definately an issue. I travel a lot and need the trunk space. I don't like sub boxes rolling around in the trunk, and I don't want to lose any floorspace. I also don't want to make my folding down rear seats useless. I'll also mount the amp on the face of the box, so everything will be nice, neat, and tucked out of the way and still easily accessible. Also, I'd prefer subs firing into the cabin as opposed to trunk. I'm into efficiency and don't want to get into overkill to provide my system with some much-lacking thump.

I'm looking into 8" sub(s) as 10s require more space (box volume) and are slightly too big in diameter to fit into the configuration I'm contemplating.

You've got some ideas that are more off the wall than this one??????

Well, yes...:-)

Let me think about this for a bit...

I think I understand your plan. Do you plan on cutting out the rear deck to allow the speakers to fire into the cabin? What is your budget?

A single 10" in the spare wheel well would work as well for keeping trunk space free.

I'm just going to cut the holes necessary for the speakers (and ports if used) to have just a barrier of the rear deck carpeting between them and the cabin.

I'm going to keep as much of the rear deck in tact as possible for rigidity (plus it's go to be able to hold the box/subs/amp.

I guess my budget is whatever I can sneak by my wife.

I've already got my amp and wiring. My eXcelon deck has been in the car since a week after I bought it almost 2 years ago.

Anyways, I'm planning on spending less than $100 on subs and maybe $50 for box building supplies.

I thought about that too. But, my heavy road time far away from home in unknown areas shoots down that idea. I don't want a can of fix-a-flat to be my only option. I prefer it as backup to the spare.

How deep is the space with the spare in place?

Oh, well. Might not sound as good on the road with a trunk full of clothes to absorb sound. Back to rear deck idea.

Thinking of how my 8" is positioned, a 10" might fit, if it were dropped down a couple inches. It's hard to see in the following picture, but the left side of the pic is the front of the car. The rear steel bracket angles away for a larger opening in there.
