Hey everybody, I was wondering if I could get your opinions on an inexpensive sub.
I've decided to build a ported enclosure mounted on the bottom of the rear deck to house two 8" subs.
I'm going to run them with an amp in bridged mono, so each sub will be getting about 125w. And, I'm going to need subs that are 8ohm impedence.
It would be a plus for the subs to use as small of an enclosure as possible too.
Please feel free to contribute whatever thoughts you may have.
Thanks, Colin

I have one of these in my SVT. Free air for me in that 6.5" hole location, bottom mounted. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl....t_ID=7760&DID=7 For an 8", I think it really rocks. Large Xmax, low FS (for an 8). Do you need me to model it?

Yeah, I was just looking at those on the parts express website. The only problem is that they're 4ohm subs.
Any thoughts on the Series II woofers?
I was also wondering what kind of box volume these subs are gonna need. I'm thinking that 1.3 cubic feet might be too big for my app.

I'm sorry, I didn't read the 8 ohm requirement. I have heard the Series II are good. If interested, check out the tech talk. Possibly a search or post the question. There are a couple very experienced guys over there.

how soon are you going to be purchasing? Adire is going to be producing an 8" sub based on the Shiva design. Unforuntately, it's still in the development stage right now.
I don't think I would recommend the series two woofers. Let me do a little checking around and I'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I'll probably purchase sometime in the next month.
I'm wondering about the Series II woofers being able to hold up in a car, as they've got treated paper cones.
I'll have to search around and see what info I can find on them.
dnewma04, keep me posted if you find something.
Thanks, -C

BTW, I don't think you will need to worry about the treated paper. It's one of the better materials made for subs, if made properly. I would expect it to last years in the mobile environment.

If I lived in Cali or someplace like that, I'd have no concerns.
But, the weather here in Chicago goes from one extreme to the next.
My first choice would be butyl/poly, but I'd consider the treated paper, especially at those prices.
Still undecided...
I've gotta do a little measuring/figuring to see if I can even use nearly 3 cubic feet worth of box space in my app. I was hoping to use subs that only needed about half of that space.

OK, I've been doing some more thinking.
As a big fan of MTX, I've come up with a couple of possibilities. Tell me what you guys think.
(1) I'd use a pair of 4ohm 8" MTX 3000s (very cheap) in sealed enclosures (only .5 cubic feet each) wired in straight-up stereo (about 80w to each sub).
My concerns are about the sub's sensitivity of only 87db, and they're not butyl/poly subs (possible longevity issues?).
(2) I could use a single 8" MTX Blue Thunder (also very cheap) in a sealed or ported enclosure (.4 to .75 cubic feet) wired in bridged mono (about 240w to the single sub).
This sub is not very efficient at only 85dB, so a pair of these subs is not an option as I wouldn't have enough power.
Will a single 8" in a sealed enclosure be enough for my tastes? I'm looking for a bit more than low end fill, not much but I'd like a little bump. If sealed won't suffice, how about ported? Does this sub sound good in a ported enclosure? I prefer tight, accurate bass.
Well, everybody, whatcha think?

How do you plan on building this? What kind of car (your contour?) Is space a big issue? Why is an 8" the only option you are looking into? I just want to get a feel for what you are looking for and maybe i can offer something a little off the wall.
