Remove the actual dome lightbulb if you want to, but make a complete circuit w/ the wires using the neons as the loop rather than the dome light or find a cool colored bulb that compliments your neons.

Or go buy a junker dome light relay & doorjamb switch from a junkyard & make another circuit...

Find a switch like the one in the dome light. I am guessing that switch is powered by two positive sources. One positive I take it is coming from the door sensors, and the other positive I guess comes from a full-time positive. The switch regulates where the power is coming from, the positive with sensor-controled power, or the positive with the non-stop power. Check out a local auto parts store and see if they have switches like that. Let me know how it goes because I plan on doing a very similar thing.

EDIT: To make it simple...

Position 1: Power comes from 12 volt positive wire (always hot)

Position 2: Power comes from 12 volt positive wire (hot only when doors open)

Position 3: Off

It should have atleast 3-4 prongs on the switch.

lol im going to EDIT again:

You can just get a regular switch, have a regular non-stop 12 volt going into it to power the neons. THEN splice another positive coming from the door lights and splice it in just before the neons, but AFTER the switch. That way NO MATTER WHAT, the neons will light up when doors open, and you can turn them on when you want.

12volt+ --------fuse---switch---|---neons----ground-
door light+ ---------------------/

I promise this is my last edit, i need to do my homework.
