I have had to change my CV's recently because the car would shake on acceleration. The right "U joint" (for lack of better description) was shot, and replacing them both fixed the shake. The best way to describe the busted axle was if you held it like this ----joint----- you could move the joing like this ____joint----- ------joint_____ up and down like that (best way I can describe it)
Well, now the shake is comming back like it did the first time, starting out small and getting worse. I dont do stupid things to my axles and trannie, like burnouts, race launching, etc only thing I do is accelerate hard once im moving. It does not shake when I let off the throttle and coast. The shake is most pronounced in a low RPM, high gear setting (say 30mph in 5th gear) or on a comfortable acceleration, getting onto the highway. Is there a reason that my CV's should have gone bad so soon? They are the OEM replacements from NAPA (lifetime replacement warranty) Thanks, Nick

could be two things: 1 the ones you put in were not in good shape(even thought they were suppose to be OEM, were they rebuilt??if so they might have messed up???
No.2 you might have a bushing(s) someplace in line that is worn and letting them vibrate and this will let them go out in a hurry??? in the late 60's i had a 66 mustang 3 speed standard, 6 cyl. that would blow one transmssion after another.. back then you could get an old transmission out of a junk, mustang, comet, falcon, etc, for about $50... so it was no big thing. i would just put a new trans. in and drive on... well anyway in 1973 when i pulled the engine out to have it rebuilt i could see the pilot bearing in the crankshaft was pretty worn... and this is where the front shaft on the transmission was inserted to hold the front shaft.. it took me a long time to find the problem, but after the bushing was replaced there was no more problems with transmissions in this car....

How could I check to see if one of those is the problems Deomon? My suspension is stock, so its not lowered. This is the second set I've had installed and go bad. Could you tell me the process of installing them, especially in the MTX-75 what 'kinks' to look out for when installing them. The guy thats been doing this for me knows how to do axles in general, so if theres anything specific to watch out for? What about a wheel bearing going out, that was told to me as a possible cause for this. Thanks alot! -Nick

well nick i can't really help you with ur problem on this occasion but i can relate. I jsut had my hub bearing replaced front end (just one) . Since i was there replacing the axle bearing i said why not. Guess what, the new one that my mechainc replaced went bad. My old one was fine, buit this new one went bad. I replaced the one that went bad, so far so good. But could be jsut the parts are bad or not rebuilt right. Since you have stated that you have not lowered your car. thats off limits. have you doen any major work like droping the subframe or anything?

Wish I could help, Nick. I remember you and I discussed the vibration problem quite extensively last spring. I've replaced everything imaginable in my car, and I've gradually removed almost all of the vibration, but not all. Luckily, the vibration I removed hasn't returned (yet), but the small amount I have is not consistent. ONe thing I found on mine (that I had not really suspected) was a worn front end-link. This was letting the tire bounce and vibrate slightly. Don't know if this would have any relationship to your problem or not.
Good luck. Maybe sometime when you're through Atoka, we can compare symptoms of our cars, and see if we've got the same problem.

Yeah, I need to check the suspension parts now too. The strange thing is that replacing the CV's fixed the problem completely, and now less than 4 months later its back. Its really getting annoying, and I wish someone could give me a definate solution -Nick

Did you replace just the CV joints or did you get new axles? A bent axle could put some unusual wear on the CV joints. The axles are about $85 for the driver side and $95 for the PS. (Napa) Oh, yeah... the passenger side has the extra support bearing that could be worn allowing the axle to flop around and wear out the CVs quicker.
