Personally, I think you should keep the wire long enough to put it in the back seat when driving w/o passengers in the back. Run the wires between the split in the seats and close them(not all the way, cause i'm sure you want to put it back in the trunk when you park it). If you want to keep it in the trunk though, make sure it is secure so you don't have it rolling all over the place! Picture this...if - comes loose and touches the + and your patch cables are still connected, you will be in some serious sh*t, because it will most likely fry the amp in your head unit and all you will have is sound via amplifiers connected to the rca plugs. I've seen it happen!
